Arcane Familiars guide

Arcane Familiars beginner's guide: starters, elements and your first bosses

Start Arcane Familiars right: which starter to pick, how the 15 elements work, beating the first Sanctum Wardens, levels and rebirth, and playing online with friends.

Arcane Familiars: Verdant Grimoire is a free, hand-painted creature-collecting RPG for Android, Windows and Mac. You're a Spellbinder who binds wild familiars, raises them, and challenges the Sanctum Wardens across three realms.

Choosing your starter

In Willow Town you choose one of three starters:

  • Sproutle (Verdant)
  • Embercub (Infernal)
  • Puddlet (Tidal)

Your rival always takes the starter that beats yours, so plan to add a familiar that covers your starter's weakness early.

The 15 elements

Every familiar and spell has one of 15 elements: Mundane, Infernal, Tidal, Verdant, Voltaic, Glacial, Martial, Noxious, Earthen, Aerial, Arcane, Chitin, Lithic, Spectral and Draconic. A spell that hits an element it's strong against deals double damage. A few to remember early:

  • Tidal beats Infernal, Earthen and Lithic.
  • Verdant beats Tidal, Earthen and Lithic.
  • Infernal beats Verdant, Glacial and Chitin.

The game's site has the full element chart.

Your first bosses

  • Warden Mason (levels 12 to 14) uses Pebblit and Boulderon. Bring Tidal or Verdant.
  • Warden Nova (levels 18 to 20) uses Glowbat and Sparkit. Bring Glacial or Lithic.

The full list, with every team and counter, is in the boss guide.

Levels, rebirth and ascension

Familiars climb to level 300. Each rebirth at the Phoenix Sanctum raises the cap by ten, up to 500. A familiar in its last form becomes Exalted at 150, Hallowed at 250 and Transcendent at 400.

Playing online

  • Trade familiars by link, try Surprise Trade, or use the Market.
  • Join co-op rift raids by room code and elite hunts.
  • Form a Circle of up to 20 players.
  • Climb ranked PvP in monthly seasons, from Bronze to Archmage.

Your save lives in your account, so it follows you between devices.
